About my Research Study and the Use of this Reference-Sharing Platform

01 July 2026

Dear Fellow BAMS Colleagues,

Good day and I hope all is well.

My name is Miguel Ferdinand C. Co, a senior student in the Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies (BAMS) program at the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU). I am currently completing my MMS 200 capstone project entitled "Promoting Collaborative Reference Sharing Practice through a Web-Based, Database-Driven Content Management System among UPOU-BAMS Students.”

Motivation: BAMS students often depend on course guides for objectives, schedules, and reading materials. While UPOU-BAMS website provides basic course details, full reference lists are usually available only after enrollment. This limits students’ ability to preview resources and hinders collaborative sharing within the BAMS community.

Solution: To address this gap, I proposed and developed this prototype online reference sharing platform (as proof of concept) where BAMS students can share, organize, and discuss course-related references. This platform aims to support collaborative learning by making user-contributed reference materials more accessible and usable to everyone.

Research objective: This study aims to examine and generate empirical evidence on whether the implementation of an online reference-sharing platform for each UPOU-BAMS course can contribute to the enhancement, expansion, and reinforcement of the learning experience among BAMS students.

In this regard, you are respectfully invited to participate in this study by completing the following:

  1. Explore and contribute to the platform at https://bams.mcco.ph. Please create an account, explore the platform, and contribute at least one reference for any BAMS course. You are also welcome to share feedback, comments, or suggestions through the platform.
  2. Complete the short survey at https://url.mcco.ph/mms200/ survey. The survey will ask you to:
    1. Assess the platform’s accessibility and usability; and
    2. Provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.

I also hope that the platform can eventually become a useful OER repository for the BAMS community. During MMS 198 in the 2nd Term of AY2025–2026, under the guidance of Dr. Benigno B. Agapito, Jr., I had the opportunity to witness many valuable videos and instructional materials created by fellow BAMS students. I encourage you to consider sharing your similar works so that your shared resources can continue to support learning and inspire others in the program.

Your participation and feedback will be greatly appreciated and will contribute meaningfully to the improvement of this platform and the study.

If you have questions or need further information, please feel free to contact me at mcco2@up.edu.ph.

Thank you very much for your time and valuable participation.

Sincerely,

Miguel
